"And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent."
Who Is God?
One of the most challenging subjects to enter Christianity is the question of Who is God?
Unfortunately, humanity, in its pursuit of answering this question, has only complicated the matter.
When we use human philosophies and ideas to figure out who God is, we only end up with bad theology.
Our response to something that we cannot define becomes, "it's a mystery."
One of the biggest mistakes is in the vocabulary we use.
Here is what we know from the Bible and what the First- and Second-Century
Christians said about God.
1. There is a God. He revealed Himself to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
2. This God manifested Himself as the WORD. The WORD is also called the Angel of the LORD.
3. The Angel of the LORD is not the Father but rather the begotten of the Father.
4. The Word became flesh, "incarnate" as the Son of God, named Jesus.
5. The Son of God was human in nature as the Son but divine as the Word and was the Christ.
6. The human nature suffered and died on the cross for our sins and
was raised from the dead by the Father.
7. Jesus, the Son of God, was given all power and authority in heaven and on earth by the Father.
8. Jesus Christ is part of the Godhead.
9. The Father gave us His Spirit, which is the divine power and intellect of God.
10. The Spirit is God speaking to humanity spiritually.
The True Biblical Trinity
The Father is the One and Only True God.
The Son is God because He was begotten of the Father.
The Spirit is God because He comes from the Father and speaks the truths of God.
These three persons make up the Trinity Godhead.
HOW TO RECONCILE THIS
There are two natures
There is the Human Nature and the Divine Nature.
A human being gives birth to another human being.
There is ONLY ONE DIVINE being. This Divine Being is the Father.
If the Divine Being begets someone, it will also be a Divine Being.
In Eternity, before the Father created all things, He begot the Son.
The Son is begotten of the Father and is also divine.
The Spirit comes from the Father and is also divine.
Nothing in all the world shares the Divinity of the Father like the Son and the Holy Spirit.
The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit make up the Trinity Godhead.
This is why the Son has a God, the Father.
The Son is begotten by the Father.
The Son was incarnate.
The Son prays to the Father.
The Son is raised from the dead by the Father.
This is also why the Father does not have a God.
The Father is Unbegotten.
The Father prays to no one.
The Father cannot die.
The Father cannot become incarnate.
IN CONCLUSION
So here is what we know. There are ONLY 3 who are divine.
These all come from the Father, who is the Supreme divine being.
The Three have a will and purpose in humanity.
The Father is the Supreme Divine Being.
The Son and the Spirit are also Divine but do the Father's Will.
This is the True Trinity Godhead
This is what we know. This is what we believe. This is what we teach.
Anything more than this, is man-made doctrine that only brings confusion.
